How do you make a cello metal?

I recently rediscovered Apocalyptica and was once again astounded by their musical prowess. I’ve been listening to them on repeat for the past few days, just trying to figure out the mechanics of how one makes a cello into a metal band instrument. I still haven’t figured that part out, but I do know that they are awesome. The basics are basically that they’re from Finland, there are three, sometimes four cellos and a drum set, and they make beautiful, beautiful music.

If you YouTube search Apocalyptica you’re bound to come up with hordes and hordes of metal songs that they’ve covered on cello. This is perfectly normal, I promise.

They started out as a Metallica cover band, and have gained an insane amount of popularity.

As of late they’ve collaborated with Gavin Rossdale (formally of Bush), who is one of my favorite vocalists, ever, Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace), Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Lacey Mosley (Flyleaf), and Christina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil). I can almost guarantee that you’ve heard at least one of these songs before, but probably never knew that Apocalyptica was involved.

Here’s
“I Don’t Care” feature Adam Gontier, mostly because I love the video, and his voice is fantastic.

Also, links to their official site, and YouTube page so that you guys can get a better listen.

My personal favorite live video is here.

Seriously, did you ever think a cello could be metal?
there’s your proof.
