VOTD: Rise Against- “Give it All”

College makes me super super busy.

This video ranks in my top five favorites ever.
I’m reading a book right now for a class that is kind of along the same lines as this (vandalizing infilstructure).

I need to run to work, but I hope you enjoy this video.

It’s also the first Rise Against song and video I ever experienced.

VOTD: 3 Doors Down-“When You’re Young.”

3 Doors Down is one of my mom’s favorite bands.
So by default I love them too, having listened to them a ton.
I’ve been slacking off at my CD buying this year, and I don’t have the new album yet, but it’s on my ever growing list of “CD’s I need to buy, ASAP.”

The problem is now, and has always been money. I can’t justify  spending hundreds of dollars on CD’s right now.
Stupid college.

The only issue I have with this video is that by the end of it I get a little sick of the black and white. I really do like the story it tells though. And I really do love 3 Doors Down. I’m not disappointed with this song at all. Sometimes, bands lose a bit of their edge, but 3 Doors Down is still going strong as far as I can tell.

There are times when I feel like this video is my life. I could get into the entire philosophy of being young, and why young people are getting used by old people, and forced into things they don’t want to do. I feel like that every day as far as college goes. It’s really easy to let people who are older tell you what’s right for you because you think they know best. As a writer I’ve been struggling with that a bit since I came to college, but I decided really early on that I wasn’t going to let my professors tell me what to write. They wanted to. They also like to assume that either we won’t make any money writing, or we’ll end up working 9-5 in a cubical.

And hey, maybe their right, but I don’t like feeling like my future is being decided for me.

Also, my job does this too, but we won’t go there. This is a music blog after all, not a “I’m going to rant” blog.

So, listen to 3 Doors Down and the message in this song.

Don’t let “the man” get you down, man.

VOTD Take 2: Korpiklaani- “Vodka”

I picked this song/video because vodka, is on my mind.
Ok, not  vodka specifically, but alcohal in general.

Today is my best friend’s twenty-first birthday. As I write this she is probably out pounding margarita and shots of vodka, or whatever she drinks.

I’m not old enough to go out and party with her. But, I thought I’d pass on Korpiklaani’s message about vodka.

Remember folks, drinking is good for you, and if you do enough of it, you’ll feel awesome. Or so Korpiklaani says. If the method doesn’t work, blame them not me.
One more thing, you’ll never be able to see the word “vodka” again without wanting to pronounce it “wodka”.
Oh, wait, I lied. Last thing for real this time:
Guess who’s going to see Korpiklaani in December?

If you guessed, the pope, you’re probably wrong, but if you  guessed ME, you win ten points.

December 17th. Worcester,  Mass. Palladium. I’ll be there.

Anyone else seeing Korpiklaani on their US tour, with Arkona (and some other bands too)?
Where? When? Are you as excited as I am?

Any bands/videos/songs whatever that you want to read about just let me know.
I don’t want this blog to be “hey  look at me post a video every day.” I want to do more than that.
I’m just not sure what the “more” part of that is.
Suggestions are awesome.

What do YOU want to read about?

VOTD #1: Die Trying-Oxygen’s Gone

So since I slacked off and didn’t post a video yesterday, I’m doing two today. If I remember to post one when I get back from class and work later (good luck with that).

This one comes straight out of the pop-punk era of the early ’00’s. It was one of my favorite songs at the time. The CD this is off of has a lot of other really good songs too.

I feel like Die Trying kind of got lost in the hype that was bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.
As far as I know they are no longer a band, or have reformed under a different name.

So enjoy a bit of an “oldie”. I’ve always loved this song. And I love the grimy style of the video. Everything looks kind of dusty and abandoned. It’s cool.

Also, sorry for being a bit unprofessional lately. I’m trying, desperatly to figure out exactly what I want to do with this blog, and I want to do it the right way. But, I’m also trying to get posts on here so that I have something to work with. So, it’ll be much prettier and awesome someday, I just haven’t quite gotten there on top of a full load of college classes, work and my depleting social life.
Ah, such is life for a college junior.

VOTD: Norther- We Rock

Norther is a band thats pretty new to me (yes I know they aren’t new at all). Mostly because I don’t really listen to this type of metal. That being said. Petri Lindroos is one of my favorite people, so I can’t not like Norther, just by default.

Things I like about this video:

  •    It’s so deliciously cliche
  • Petri looks like a girl sometimes
  • it’s so so so different from how I’m used to seeing him in Ensiferum (I’m backwards, sorry).
  • Crazy cinamatography
  • Norther-esque lyrics
  • Petri’s vocals/guitar playing
  • It’s also off of the last Norther album Petri had a part in.
  • Watching Petri do anything makes my fangirl come out
  • There’s something about this song I enjoy, but I have no clue what exactly it is.

So what do you guys think of Norther? Or this type of metal, at all?

Does Petri Lindroos make anyone else all melty?
Am I just stupid?
Don’t answer that.

Maybe I’ll post something more interesting than VOTD later.
